Akua Owusu-Dommey (pronounced ‘uh-kwee-yah') is 24 year-old dental student currently living in Nashville, Tennessee. A Phoenix native, Akua hopes to return to the Southwest to eventually practice as a General Dentist for underserved patients in the region. Akua has had an absolute blast joining the board this year, getting to support RDC and its incredible mission, and participate in a collective that ensures that dancers are paid first— something that truly speaks to her values as a progressive. Akua is always searching for ways to grow and expand her empathy, in action and in thought, and believes that RESILIENCE Dance Company provides the perfect venue for audience members to grapple with and find engagement in how dancers share their bodies, movements, and emotions in their spaces. Akua loves to spend her free time cooking new recipes, writing essays, and sending absurd memes to her partner.
